Friday, September 13th
- Got to experience Calgary Opera firsthand and hear Maria sing a couple songs for us (without even using a microphone) 📢
- Reviewed some math concepts and learning from the last week (congruent and similar figures, line of symmetry, names of 2D shapes)
- Used our knowledge of symmetry to find the lines of symmetry on leaves from outside Hawkwood School and draw one half of the leave to make our image symmetrical
We had a great first FULL week of grade four! It was so nice to see so many families out for Meet the Teacher last night!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Thursday, September 12th
- Kept up with our routine of literacy stations to start our day. We did the opposite station that we worked on yesterday and read with a buddy
- Continued with symmetry - found lines of symmetry, made our own symmetrical snowflakes and completed the mirror image of an object
- Wow - it was a beautiful day outside and so we went outside to read (and run and play😉)
- Put on our geography hats and labeled a map of Canada - ask me to show you Alberta on a map and provinces that are close by!
- Met with our buddies
Tonight is meet the Teacher
@5:30 there is a family BBQ
@6:30 and 7:00 Ms. Jonasson will talk our families
Wednesday, September 11th
- Continued learning the literacy stations we will be using this year - ask your student which centre they worked on today (either poetry, or post office and what they did during that centre)
- Got to know our Assistant Principal a bit more (ask your child to tell you one fact about Mrs. Ernst)
- Introduced the concept of "Symmetry" in math - Where do we see symmetry? What does it mean when something is symmetrical? What is a line of symmetry?
- Worked on sounding out words with a challenging spelling test that had high school level words!
- Continued catching up on unfinished work - remember tomorrow night is Meet the Teacher @6:30!
Tuesday, September 10th
- "I can Demonstrate an understanding of congruency"
- We explored our new science topic "Simple Machines" by seeing what kinds of simple machines we think are in Rube Goldberg's massive machine
- Used our listening skills to follow directions and correctly complete an illustration
- Explored two new literacy stations - Non fiction and Handwriting (ask me how they work)
Monday, September 9
- Today we introduced two new literacy stations! Read to someone and laptops - ask me how each station works
- In math we checked in on our knowledge of 2D shapes and we rocked it!!
- We discussed a new topic of learning we will be completing this year, FRENCH!!
- Continued reading the City Of Ember ask me the names of some of the new characters
